THQ Announces Holiday Lineup
As the holiday season approaches and 2006 winds to a close, it’s time to take a look back at the games that made this past year one of the most exciting in gaming history. Best of the Year awards are always a great way to remember the games that made gaming so much fun throughout the year, as well as letting everyone know which titles make excellent gifts for loved ones.
THQ has released some great games in 2006 spanning nearly every genre in the industry. From action games to kids’ titles, THQ has given gaming some of its best titles this past year. We’d like to take the time to showcase four exceptional games that THQ has given to gamers in 2006.
Company of Heroes
Produced by Relic Entertainment in Vancouver, Company of Heroes has been one of the best-selling PC games of 2006 and one of the most critically acclaimed PC games of all time. The game is the fifth-highest rated PC game of all time based on aggregate scores from all relevant media outlets by GameRankings.com, and is the highest-rated real time strategy (RTS) game ever. Set in the visceral frontlines of WWII, Company of Heroes has breathed new life into the WWII and RTS genres and has become the new benchmark for all strategy games on the PC. Company of Heroes unquestionably deserves consideration for best RTS Game of 2006.
Saints Row
Produced by Volition in Champaign, Illinois, Saints Row marked THQ’s first major title for the Xbox 360. Considered by many to be the first must-own title for the Xbox 360, the game was the top-selling title for the Xbox 360 in its first month at retail with more than 455,000 units sold in North America. This open-world action hit has been a breakout hit for the Xbox 360 and is the first game in its genre to offer an online multiplayer experience (which is among the top five most frequently played games on Xbox Live). Saints Row could be considered one of the Best Action Games of 2006 or among the Best Xbox 360 Games of 2006.
WWE Smackdown VS Raw 2007
For the past eight years, the Smackdown VS Raw series has been a perennial hit with both wrestling fans and gamers alike. Smackdown VS Raw 2007 marks the first time the series hits a next-generation console (with its appearance on the Xbox 360) and the series is seeing some amazing improvements. With the power of the Xbox 360, character models and animations look more like their real-life WWE counterparts than ever before. With a whole slew of match types, more than 60 WWE wrestlers and Legends to play as and the ability to play with your friends or gamers anywhere in the world over Xbox Live, Smackdown VS Raw 2007 is THE wrestling game to own in 2006.
Cars
Produced by Rainbow Studios, Cars is the latest collaboration between THQ and Disney/Pixar. In the game, players enter an interactive racing adventure featuring characters from the movie including Lightning McQueen, Doc Hudson and Mater, as well introducing characters that weren’t featured in the movie. The game features excellent voice acting from all of the stars of Cars like Owen Wilson, Paul Newman and Larry the Cable Guy. Cars is available on all platforms including the Xbox 360, and is among the launch titles for the Nintendo Wii. The game has appeal to gamers of all ages, and makes a great title for the entire family
